The many services provided by the Saskatchewan Abilities Council Swift Current Branch are in the spotlight this week.

Swift Current City Council proclaimed this week as Saskatchewan Abilities Council Awareness Week.

Regional Director Jason Loewer says the Abilities Council has served the city for more than 40 years, delivering a broad range of vocational, recreational, and rehabilitation programs.

Loewer says the Council currently focuses on seven areas of service, including the activity area, which provides life skills training and entertainment for adults with disabilities.  There is also the training centre, where the sewing, assembly, and wood products produce manufactured goods that are sold throughout Canada; and Partners in Employment, assisting people with barriers in finding employment to overcome those barriers, by offering resume writing, job placement clubs, and work readiness classes.

Other services are special needs transportation and equipment, the SARCAN recycling centre, and the Summer Fun Program.
