A former standout of the Assiniboia Rockets 6-man football team is heading to the Bridge City to play at the post-secondary level.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies announced on Twitter this week that defensive lineman Carson Bell has committed to the green and white.

In looking forward to the upcoming 2020 season, we’d like to welcome DL Carson Bell to the Huskies. Welcome aboard Carson! pic.twitter.com/l50upMdMTr

Bell just wrapped up his junior football career in the fall of 2019 having battled in the trenches with the CJFL's Regina Thunder since 2015.

Bell made 35 combined regular-season and playoff appearances over those five seasons for the Thunder. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive lineman recorded 50 solo tackles and 53 assisted tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one interception over that span.

He soon will join a Huskies squad that's soon to be home to another now-former Assiniboia Rocket as well - grade 12 offensive lineman Derek Beaubien.

The Huskies are coming off 2019 season that saw a second-consecutive appearance in the Hardy Cup (Canada West Conference Final). Saskatchewan was unable to work a second-straight victory over the University of Calgary Dinos, falling 29-4 back in November.
