In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some services in the city of Swift Current have begun to announce changes to their routine in an effort to delay the possible spread of the virus in the city.

The Swift Current branch library sent out a press release on Saturday announcing the cancellation of its programs and group events in an attempt to delay the spread of COVID-19

Andrea McCrimmon, the branch manager, said that for the time being, the location will remain open with regular business hours, but have instituted new policies to limit interaction and protect community members and staff.

Late fees are being waived until April 31, 2020, The outdoor book drop will be open 24 hours a day, and toys will be removed from the children's area. All efforts to limit in-person contact as much as possible.

She added that anyone who is feeling unwell should keep their library material until further notice, and asked that anyone who has travelled outside of the country in the last 14 days or been in close contact with a suspected case of COVID-19 to please avoid visiting the library.

The Chinook Regional Library, through its Libby app on Android and IOS, offers free access to ebooks and audiobooks.

In a similar move, the Swift Current SPCA announced on their website that they would be limiting public traffic to their shelter until the threat of COVID-19 has passed.

Shelter volunteer opportunities have been cancelled and any practical donations such as food and supplies are being asked to call ahead to arrange a drop off time.
