Environment Canada is forecasting the possibility of some nasty weather this afternoon and tonight in the southwest area.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for the southwest. Strong winds, large hail and rain as well as the possible tornado activity is possible with this system that could develop in south east Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan today.

Dan Kulak is a meteorologist with Environment Canada. He says there is also a part of that warning that people sometimes forget about. "We sometimes forget about lightening though. Lightening actually is the greatest threat. It doesn't sound like it, but lightening does kill more people in Canada per year than rain, hail, severe winds, tornadoes and hurricanes combined. So really, lightening is your biggest summer threat."

Environment Canada says to take cover if bad weather does approach, keep your eyes to the sky today and tonight and listen for weather updates as conditions change.
