The centre square of the Swift Current Mall was packed with book lovers this past weekend thanks to the Swift Current Library.

Over the weekend the library hosted a 'Big Ol' Booksale' for the residents to check out. The event served as a way for the library to get rid of some old books, and also raise some funds.

Andrea McCrimmon, manager of the Swift Current Library, said that they were able to raise over $3,400.

"The book sale this year went great," she said. "It was really busy. We sold more books than ever and had a very great turnout. Everyone had a blast coming and finding treasures and was so excited about the book sale. It's become a really wonderful event in Swift Current for book lovers."

The money raised is a record amount for the fundraiser, and McCrimmon said it will help get new books.

"We use the money that we raise from the book sale to help find new bestselling books for the library," she said. "We also use our fundraising money to help put on our special event program."

The books that were sold at the sale were either not being used anymore at the library or would donate by people within the community.

McCrimmon said that to see the support from the community is wonderful.

"It's just a really wonderful event in terms of supporting the library through fundraising and helping supply the new books that our community wants to read," she said. "It's just a really exciting, fun event for book lovers in Swift Current. You can load up on books with prices that everyone can afford."

McCrimmon added that she looks forward to next year's event in mid-October.
