If you drive around Swift Current - heck even if you walk, bike, scooter, or cross-country ski - you will likely notice some changes if you're travelling in the central part of town.

Starting tomorrow the City will be going from using two-way stop signs on Herbert Street where it meets 4th Avenue Northeast to putting in four-way stop signs temporarily.

That'll likely just be a month-long change though.

After that, two-way stop signs will be installed on 4th Avenue Northeast where it meets Herbert.

The City's general manager of infrastructure and operations Mitch Minken said the temporary change is for safety.

"The four-way stop signs are being used temporarily to allow 4th Avenue motorists to get used to stopping at Herbert Street. After a month or more, the Stop Signs on Herbert Street East will be removed, giving that street right-of-way. The stop signs on 4th Avenue Northeast will then become two-way signs."

The City said the move is because traffic volume is far heavier on Herbert Street than 4th Avenue Northeast.
