After work began back in the spring of 2017, the Chinook Power Plant is finally ready for opening.

This morning, SaskPower is giving local and provincial media a tour of the facility to illustrate the work that went into over two years of work.

During construction, hundreds of employees put in time on the power facility, but upon its opening, it will support only 24 jobs.

Construction on the project came with a price tag of $680 million, and will be able to provide 353 megawatts of power, or enough to supply power to 353,000 homes.

The natural gas power plant came in on time as well as on budget, according to SaskPower.

They said in a press release that after the tour taking place this morning, a program, ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a media scrum would all be taking place around 11:00 a.m. this morning.

The Swift Current Online Newsroom will have more from the tour and media conference later today.
