The Swift Current City RCMP is going to be having a few faces departing soon, but will also have a few new ones coming in.

The staffing shuffle that the City RCMP are undergoing is a normal, expected part of work with the RCMP. While it is always a shame to have members who have integrated with the community leave, the chance to make new connections with incoming members is very much welcome.

For City RCMP Detachment Commander, Evan Gordon, the change means he will have to say goodbye to some good colleagues while getting to get to know some fresh faces not long after.

"The benefit of a community like Swift Current is that our police officers are able to integrate themselves fairly easily," said Gordon. "Actually, there's a fairly diverse community population in Swift Current compared to other smaller rural communities in Saskatchewan."

This time around, four officers will be leaving, some of which have been in the detachment for five or so years.

Gordon was not able to confirm if the officers would like their names or destinations shared, and respected their privacy by leaving that information alone.

He may miss these individuals and their skill sets within the community, but is eager to welcome their replacements.

"We get police officers from various backgrounds and different walks of life and previous work experience," said Gordon. "As I said, usually it's fairly easy for them to integrate, to find something that they're familiar with, find that common ground and use that as a platform."

Folks can expect the change in officers to happen later this summer, with Gordon planning to introduce the newer officers to the community via events and meetings like Swift Current city council.

While not all of the officers will be straight out of training, it was confirmed a few are fresh out of the box.

"It's a good place for new police officers to learn and it's also a good place for experienced police officers to come and see something that maybe they haven't seen in other parts of the province," said Gordon. "(Swift Current) really is a great spot."
