In case getting the all-time highest score on a national test wasn't enough, a Swift Current Fire Fighter has also now received official accolades from Swift Current City Council.

Tanner Lange managed to obtain a score of 795 out of a possible 800 points, the highest ever recorded in Canada on the final exam from the College of Paramedic Regulators (COPR). This achievement has of course earned him kudos at the Swift Current Fire Department, and now with the city council body.

Presenting Lange's achievement to city council was Swift Current Fire Department Fire Chief, Ryan Hunter.

"Tanner has received an award of excellence from the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics. He received that award due to his high score in his final exam, the exam that all paramedics must pass to be licensed and practiced in Canada," praised Hunter. "This exam is intense and feared by all. After all, your medical and practical training, if a student does not pass this final exam, he will not or she will not be granted a license to practice."

Extending congratulations first and foremost was Swift Current's Mayor, Al Bridal.

"It's an amazing achievement," said Bridal. "It's reassuring to know that our cities are in such capable hands that things will arise and congratulations."

Soon after comments and questions were fielded to Lange and Hunter from council members, who took the time to get in a few congratulations.

Council Member Ryan Switzer asked what a passing score would normally look like, to get a feel for just how amazing this high score was.

"A passing grade in that exam is a 450," shared Lange. "What the average score would be, I couldn't comment on that."

Another question put forth by Council Member Friesen was just how much preparation did Lange have to put into the test.

For Lange's part, he spoke about how he had been taking his course part-time at the Great Plains College while working as a firefighter with the department.

"I really kind of kicked it up a notch two months before the exam," elaborated Lange. "That exam was in the back of my mind the entire program from day one starting there. I knew that was probably the biggest hurdle that I'd have to overcome. I just kind of buckled down and then dedicated myself throughout the program to make sure that I was doing well and had a good understanding and gave myself the best opportunity to be successful."

Afterwards, Lange was able to get an official photo with Bridal, where he was once again praised for Lang's outstanding achievement.

If anyone would like to extend some congratulations of their own, the fire hall is always open to snacks and refreshments being dropped off.
