On April 22nd, The City of Swift Current will be holding an earth day activity for children as Val Choo-Foo, In Motion Community Facilitator with the city explains.

"It's a program for children ages 6-11 and it's called Exploring Nature On Earth Day. We thought that we would like to get the kids out in the beautiful spring weather so we can get out to the parks and just explore a little bit about nature through some crafts, games, and science."

Families can register their children here starting next Monday, April 12th at 8 am.

Choo-Foo provides details regarding the program.

"We will meet on that Thursday at 4 pm at the Lt. Colonel Clifton Center and then we have leaders here. They are each going to head out with a small group of children with a nat pack and in those nat packs are different themes. So they will have a different nat pack every 15 minutes and do a different activity."

Activities will include playing games using objects from nature, arts & crafts, and planting flowers in little egg cartons. The planted seeds will be sent home with families and will be part of a new project that the city has started this year. The project is called the Family Flower Project and just south of Rempel Community Gardens there will be plots where families can go and plant their seeds and the city will then water them and take care of them.

Choo-Foo adds that even with COVID there are still many things that can be done to help our earth and to help children learn about nature and the importance of the environment.

Earth day was established in 1970 so it will be celebrating its 51st year this year and the theme is Restore Our Earth.

After earth day the nat packs will be available down at the library and can then be signed out.
