Despite a plethora of rain hitting Swift Current in the last half of June, the City remains ahead of schedule when it comes to construction.

June saw close to three inches of rain hit Swift Current, which meant delays for construction crews working on the numerous projects around the city.

Mitch Minkin, general manager of infrastructure and operations with the City of Swift Current, said he's happy with how things have gone so far.

"Things are going quite well. We're probably ahead of where we would normally be with our initiative to get a lot of stuff wrapped up before the Western Canada Summer Games," he said. "We are wrapping up a couple of major ones. The one on 1st Avenue Northeast, our underground conversion work from overhead to underground with light and power will wrap up next week. Even with the big rain, we've managed to stay on schedule."

Minkin said crews have been working hard to finish most of the projects before the athletes, spectators, and visitors arrive.

"I think we've got most of our street projects done. We're trying to get everything buttoned up as we struggle with the weather," he said. "I'm pretty confident that we will have the city looking in pretty good shape for when the games start."

Minkin added that one notable project that they will be working on after the Western Canada Summer Games will be rebuilding the CPR Weir in Riverside Park.
