The Government of Saskatchewan has announced some improvements to portions of Highway 37 at Shaunavon.

MLA Doug Steele said, "We're going to do 12 kilometers from the intersection of 13 and 37 at Shaunavon, and then 4 kilometers from 13 and 37 south. So a total of 16 kilometers in the Shaunavon area."

This investment, he said, provides highway safety to the communities in the trading area.

MLA Steele did say that the government's five year plan does include more work being done on other areas of Highway 37.

Recently, the Shaunavon Economic Development Committee initiated a letter writing campaign to MLA Doug Steele and the Ministry of Highways for the immediate need to do some work on Highway 37.

Lauren Johnson is Shaunavon's Economic Development Officer. She said, "The EDC is really pleased about his recent announcement from MLA Doug Steele about these improvements that are going to be made to Highway 37. That portion of the highway needed immediate attention. We're really thrilled about this and we'd really like to thank MLA Steele and the Ministry of Highways for recognizing that this highway really needed those improvements."

The engineering for this project will be completed this summer, the project will be tendered and aggregate processed and hauled during the fall of 2021, with construction and paving scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022.

MLA Steele said that there is no estimated project cost available at this time.

He also added that work that was part of a maintenance plan on Highway 13 from Shaunavon towards Eastend that was started last year, will be completed this year as well.
