The Water Security Agency (WSA) has issued a precautionary drinking water advisory for a portion of Maple Creek this morning.

According to a statement from the Town of Maple Creek, the advisory is for the 100 and 200 blocks of Sidney Street due to a water main break, effective immediately.

Affected residents are advised to boil all water for drinking purposes for at least one minute, at a rolling boil, prior to usage. This should also be done to water for brushing teeth, washing fresh foods, adding to food and drinks which will not be heated and making ice cubes. Anyone who doesn't wish to boil the water first, is recommended to use alternative safe water sources.

Under most circumstances, it is not necessary to boil water used for other household purposes such as showering, laundry or washing dishes. Anyone with severe cuts or rashes should consult with their primary care physician before using the tap water.

The advisory will not be lifted until the water supply is determined to be safe.
