It was a busy Sunday in Riverside Park, as to go along with the 2018 Gutsy Walk and the Picnic in the Park, the Southwest Crisis Services held their 30th annual Duck Derby.

This year's derby featured 1,355 bigger and faster ducks competing and saw  $12,595 raised for Southwest Crisis Services.

Brenna Ekstrand is the community relations coordinator for Southwest Crisis Services and said that this year's derby was awesome.

"We had new ducks and they made a tremendous splash and they just raced down the river and we got our six winners."

Ekstrand said that they like to do the derby because it allows them to have some fun with the community.

"It's kind of what defines us in the community," she said. "People associate the Duck Derby with Southwest Crisis Services and it's a little fun. Our organization is pretty serious so sometimes it's nice to have a little bit of fun."

Ekstrand added that money raised will go towards funding the programs, services, and staffing at the shelter.

The six fastest ducks from the race at Riverside Park would get a chance to pick from a choice of prizes.

"We have six different prize packs in three different categories. We have self-care, date night, and family fun. The first duck gets to have the first choice, the second duck second choice and on and on," Ekstrand said. "They get to choose what package works for the best."

The six fastest ducks from the race belonged to:

First Place:  Duck #972 - Joanne Meyer

Second Place: Duck #395 – Jeremy Widdup

Third Place: Duck #4 – Patsy Williams

Fourth Place: Duck #1037 - Lisa Willows
