The race for the Saskatchewan Party nomination in the upcoming Swift Current byelection has received its second nominee.

Everett Hindley announced on Monday that he would be seeking the Saskatchewan Party nomination for the constituency of Swift Current joining Derek Robinson.

Hindley said that the reason that he wanted to go after this position is that he feels it's the right time for him to step up and take a shot at the nomination.

"I have been a part of this community for 21 years. For the last 18 years, I've worked in provincial politics, and I think that has given me a chance to meet such a wide variety of different people and I think I have an idea of what's important to the people of Swift Current and area."

Hindley has been working with the current MLA Brad Wall since 1999 and served as his constituency assistant at the MLA office until 2006 when Wall was voted in as Premiere; Hindley then took on the role of executive assistant to the Premier.

"I think that I bring a lot of experience to the position and a lot of connections to the community," said Hindley. "Like I said I have been in politics for 18 years now, and I think it gives me a broader sense of what's happening outside of Swift Current and outside of our borders and I think just having the ability to kind of link those things together."

Hindley said that his decision to run was not one he took lightly.

"Some folks make a decision quite quickly about these things," he said. "Myself, I thought about it for some weeks, and I talked to my wife and family, and some of my colleagues at work and a couple of weeks ago I decided that this was the step I wanted to take."

Hindley added that if he won, he would still reside in Swift Current.

The nomination meeting for the Saskatchewan Party will be held on December 11.
