Work on the renovations and additions at Swift Current's Fairview Arenas is a step closer to starting.

The tenders for the $1.2 million project were awarded at last night's City Council meeting.

City Recreation and Parks Director Dean Robson says Frontier Construction of Swift Current was awarded the contract for the overall renovations at the arena.  The renovation entails an expansion of the east rink dressing room, and the installation of a concrete floor and overhead door at the west rink.  He adds that Vipond, who worked on the Credit Union iplex renovations, was awarded the contract for the fire suppression system.

Robson says the work should be starting soon, but the bulk of the renovations won't begin until the ice is out.  He says, once that happens, they hope it will all be complete by September 2010.
