The Swift Current Baseball Club received a big boost over the weekend as they prepare for their first season as the 57’s.

The team announced that five key contributors to last year’s championship winning team will be returning to Swift Current the for Summer ’17 season.

Pitcher Bobby St. Pierre, Utility man Bodie Cooper, Outfielder Thomas DeBonville, Pitcher Aiden Goodall and First Baseman Kyle McDonald will all be calling Mitchell Field their baseball home again this summer.

St. Pierre, Cooper, DeBonville and Goodall were all named WMBL All-Stars last season, while Cooper was also named WMBL Rookie of the Year.

"All five of these players were key parts of our 2016 league championship," said Swift Current 57’s coach Joe Carnahan.

"These are all great character guys who are expected to make an impact on the field this season."

St. Pierre proved to be one of Swift Current’s best pitchers last season finishing with a 10-3 record, a 2.23 ERA and 48 strike-outs, while throwing 88.2 innings.

Goodall also finished the season with a sub-three ERA. Throwing 32.1 innings, the 6’6” right-hander finished with a 5-1 record, a 2.78 ERA and 33 strike-outs.

En route to his Rookie of the Year honour, Cooper finished the regular season and playoffs with a .317 average, 8 home runs, 43 runs scored and 39 RBI.

DeBonville hit for a .370 average to go along with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 33 runs scored, 26 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Kyle MacDonald also hit over .300, finishing the year with a .335 average. The Mississauga, Ontario native also had 12 doubles, 11 home runs, 54 runs scored and 50 RBI.

Swift Current will play their first game as the 57’s on June 1st.

They will host the Moose Jaw Miller Express in their home-opener.
