Dances, food and handmade items from several different countries were celebrated and enjoyed at Kinetic Park last night.

The first ever Cultural Crossroads event was held under the Grasslands Social Tent, in conjunction with Multiculturalism Day in Swift Current.

Deanna Baje, executive director for the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre, was excited to share so many different cultures with the community.

"This is the start of a beautiful partnership with Frontier Days, City of Swift Current, Tourism Swift Current, Southwest Newcomer Welcome Center," she said. "We hope that this could be the start of something new."

Regina's Bhangra Crew started the evening with high energy performances of traditional dances from India, followed by some young dancers showing off their moves originating from The Philippines. Saffron House was on location serving up Indian and Indo-Chinese cuisine throughout the evening as well.

Host of the event, Icasiana DeGala, explained where the name for the inaugural event came from.

"Swift Current is at the crossroads of Highway 1 and Highway 4 and the event is a crossing of several cultures, at least four, and it seemed to fit the feel of the fair."
