Environment Canada is warning folks in the southwest of conditions that could lead to funnel clouds today.

Weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds, or weak thunderstorms, lead to these types of funnel clouds. While weak rotation is not normally a danger near the ground, there's a chance it could intensify and become a landspout tornado.

If conditions become more favourable for the development of landspout tornadoes, watches and warnings will be issued by Environment Canada.

Folks should treat any funnel cloud sighting seriously; if one develops nearby, prepare to take shelter. They usually appear with little to no warning.

The areas under this advisory include Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Val Marie, Cypress Hills, Leader and Gull Lake.
