A southwestern Saskatchewan care facility has a problem underfoot but is taking care of it.

The Gull Lake Special Care Center is a facility that looks after people who need a more active care role in their lives, due to their medical situations.

When the Care Center became aware of the fact that they had asbestos beneath their flooring, they took the appropriate actions to renovate and replace the affected rooms.

Any time a room becomes available, they do a full inspection looking for any wear or tear. If they come across any issues, not just in the flooring, the whole room is renovated if repairs are a non-option.

These renovations typically run up a cost of $2,800 per room. During the renovations, the occupant of the room is moved to another room to wait until their room is finished. This can last for up to three days.

They have had no issues involving guests' health or wellbeing involving asbestos to date, but in the event that was to happen, the families of those involved would be notified immediately.

If the room is found to contain asbestos, they dispose of it properly and file all findings and disposals with the asbestos registry.
