As snow finally blankets the southwest, residents are in for a frosty treat as the City of Swift Current reminds residents about an initiative to encourage outdoor winter activities.

The Swift Current Branch Library is now offering free snowshoe 'rentals' for families, allowing them to explore the snowy landscapes of the city in a unique and adventurous way.

According to In-Motion Community Facilitator for the City, Val Choo-Foo, all it takes is showing a library card to sign out pairs for the whole family.

"We have some cool backpacks there that are filled with information on snowshoes, different games and activities that you can do with snowshoes, and also some binoculars in there," she said. "Hopefully people will enjoy getting outdoors and enjoying some great snowshoeing adventures."

The library has stocked up on a variety of sizes, thanks to the generous contribution from Canadian Tire.

Snowshoes are available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it essential for eager participants to head to the library early to secure their pairs.

Swift Current has multiple scenic routes for snowshoe enthusiasts, including the picturesque Chinook Parkway and the cross-country trails near the Chinook Golf Course. The trails provide an ideal setting for families to connect with nature while engaging in a low-impact, high-fun winter activity.

The Swift Current Branch Library encourages all interested residents to visit the library, grab a pair of snowshoes, and embark on a winter adventure.
