This weekend, get the family ready for fun at Hazlet Sports Days.

For over 50 years, Hazlet Sports Days have been some of the best fun folks can find.

As excited if not more excited than everyone else is Lindsey Alliban, economic development officer for the Town of Hazlet. Her efforts in helping get everything together alongside side the Hazlet Lions Club are culminating in a weekend full of awesome games, entertainment, and family outings.

"This weekend will be a lot of fun for all ages," said Alliban. "It's a great time for families to come out and visit our community."

Kicking off tonight, folks can get their ball gloves ready for some slow-pitch action at the ball diamonds at 5 p.m. After that, it's off to the Hazlet Regional Park for a steak supper, courtesy of the Hazlet Lions Club.

"Then it'll be a beer garden and cabaret with a band called Bad Habits from Saskatoon," noted Alliban.

Tickets for that show will be $10.

Camping will also still be open for anyone looking to party the night away. They can stay out for the duration of the whole Hazlet Sports Days, just by paying the regular fees.

Saturday there is a pancake breakfast, followed up later on by the parade at 11 o'clock.

"Then a show and shine at our Hazlet Ball Park," said Alliban. "Then the activities kind of move back to the park where there are kids activities from 2 till 4 p.m."

The Hilltop Golf Course right across from the campground will host their own beer gardens, with a name-that-tune event going in the tent.

Sunday is the big highlight and the longest-running event in Hazlet Sports Days history. The Tin Man relay sees four individuals cooperate, with one biking, one running, and two canoeing.

"It's a really great time and a good competition," said Alliban. "If anybody wants to try out the Tin Man, they can come out to the park and register. It starts around 1 p.m."

Proceeds from Hazlet Sports Days go right back into Hazlet Regional Park. Currently, the park is working on new water and power lines. This weekend will be the first operational weekend of the new spray park.

"We're also working towards getting some new bathrooms and a concession down there," said Alliban.

Alliban thanked Brandt, Hawks Agro, Innovation Federal Credit Union, and everyone else who has sponsored this event.
