Giving everyone a chance to enjoy the outdoors.

This weekend marks Saskatchewan's annual Free Fishing weekend which means that anyone, including those from outside the province, can fish in Saskatchewan without purchasing a lisence.

Tanya Johnston, Sport Fishery Specialist with Saskatchewan Environment, says the program began back in 1985

"The purpose behind it was fishing was seen as a recreational activity that the family could do.  It also introduced new anglers to the sport, perhaps you would think about going fishing but the cost of buying a license hindered you, so this weekend you could go try it out and see if fishing was for you or not."

Johnston adds that a license is required for non-Saskatchewan residents to transport fish outside the province.
