A Friday night fight with the Calgary Midget Flames ended in a disappointing 2-2 draw for the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires, in Game 3 of their round robin schedule at the Mac's tournament in Calgary.

"We just didn't play very well as a team in general," said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen. "We didn't have enough players play to their potential. We just seemed to struggle through the game."

The Flames struck first, taking the early lead on the powerplay under ten minutes into the game.

However, with under a minute to go in the first, the Legionnaires even up scoring on the man-advantage courtesy of Reed Jacobson, who took feeds from Boston Bird and Lucas Ochitwa to close the opening frame.

Swift pulled ahead into the second period, as Jaxon Martens set up Blake Rasmuson, who buried the go-ahead goal with 12:45 remaining in the middle stanza.

That score carried through to the later stages of the game. The Flames drew even with the Legionnaires approaching just five minutes left in the game, for the final goal of the contest.

"We got a lead 2-1, and then we shoot a puck, hits a shin pad, goes the other way, and they tie it 2-2 in the third," said Evjen. "That was pretty much the game. Very disappointing for us to tie the game, that's for sure."

After surging out to a gritty 3-3 draw with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in their opener, followed by a 10-1 thumping of the Brampton 45's, Swift Current wasn't able to secure both points in a game Evjen felt was theirs to win with a steady effort.

"You have to be ready to go out there and play, and make puck plays. We just didn't execute at all. That's what cost us. The game was there to be taken - we knew what they were, and they didn't do anything different, they just worked hard. We just fell short."

The Legionnaires' second tie of the tournament pumped the breaks on their playoff push as, despite a loft +9 goal-differential, Swift will need some help from a few different scenarios to clinch a spot past the round robin.

Among those, a tie in a Saturday tilt between the Cariboo Cougars (1-0-1, +1 goal-diff), and Lethbridge Midget Hurricanes (1-0-1, +2 goal-diff) would aid the Legionnaires in widening the window of opportunity to advance.

Regardless of Saturday's games, a day the Legionnaires have off, Swift Current will need two games in Sunday's round-robin finale against the Prince George-based Cariboo squad to give them a chance at a coveted playoff berth.

"Well we've got a day off now. We'll just have to find out what happens tomorrow in the tournament," noted Evjen. "Then, we'll prepare to play like we always do. Everything will be status quo going into the game, and I guess we'll play PG and we'll definitely be dialed into that game I would think a lot more than we were tonight."

The Legionnaires face off with the Cariboo Cougars 3:30 p.m. Sask time on Sunday, from Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.
