Back on home ice at Fairview West arena, the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires used a balance of powerplay goals and solid netminding to shut out the visiting Battlefords Stars 4-0 Saturday night.

The Legionnaires struck just over five minutes into the game, as affiliated player Beau Larson notched his first goal of the season on a feed from Rin Beny and Hunter Lamb.

Then, the special teams play took over for Swift Current.

Still in the first frame, the Legionnaires scored two powerplay goals 39 seconds apart.

The first came with two seconds left on a 5-on-3 when a missed shot from Beny turned into a tic-tac-toe play to Ty Muench, and then to the stick of Jacob Piller for his fifth goal of the season.

Then, with the second line on the ice for the Legionnaires, Owen Ozar potted his second goal of the season, with Jerzy Orchard and captain Christian Riemer adding assists on the play.

The early scoring was a big confidence boost for Legionnaires goalie Cody Levesque, who was able to settle in in-between the pipes.

"It calms me down a bit," Levesque said. "I kind of get a little anxious at the start, but once they put a few in, it lets me relax a little and just play my game."

Swift Current rounded out the game's scoring with their third powerplay goal, which came halfway through the second period, as Muench put the puck past Stars' goalie Joseph Young on passes from Lamb and Piller - all three recorded their second points of the night on the play.

After the game, the Legionnaires' 17-year-old goaltender had plenty of modesty to go with his 29 saves on the night.

"I thought the team played very well in front of me - they cleared the traffic out from in front of the net," Levesque said. "I guess I had to make a few big saves, but it was nice to get the win."

The 2015 WHL Bantam Draft pick of the Calgary Hitmen will get the start again in net Sunday at 12:45 p.m. at Fairview West, as the Legionnaires (3-2) and Stars (1-2) face off once more to close out play on the Thanksgiving long weekend.
