After dropping their first game of the season to the Notre Dame Hounds, the Swift Current U18 AAA Legionnaires were set to use a home-and-home series against the Estevan Bears, who were coming off a first game against the Regina Pat Canadians that saw them demolished 9-1 by the South leading squad.

Meeting at home on Friday night at the Swift Current iPlex, the first game of the head to head was a slow start for the Legionnaires; scoreless until the end of the first when Rhett Dekowny finally beat Bears tender Kelton Pine.

The Bears, however, were looking like a different team than the one who faced the Regina Pat Canadians.

Colby Cuddington tied it up unassisted midway through the second, and early in the third, after a power-play goal would give the Legionnaires their second lead of the game, Cooper Chisholm would step up, tying it up at two.

Despite 8 penalties, the Legionnaires were unable to pull away.

3-on-3 overtime solved nothing, with Jakin Lawrence potting the only goal of the shootout to give Swift Current their first win of the season.

Sunday's game; the rematch between the Estevan Bears and the Swift Current Legionnaires, was to take place on Sunday at Affinity Place in Estevan but was cancelled due to weather.

The Legionnaires next host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday.
