SWAC district curling championships took place over the last couple of weeks with the senior boys and girls events held February 2-3 at the Swift Current Curling Club and the open mixed championship in Eastend this weekend.

Qualifying for regionals in senior boys were Riley Starkey, Troy Oakman, Rhone Foster, Sean Friesen and coach Ron Bailey from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School, and the second-place team of Tyler Lamarre, Zach Dysart, Lucas McMillan, Cohen Haithwaite, Trusten Kirwan and coach Amy Dysart from Gull Lake.

In senior girls, Scotlyn Rogers, Lola Ruehs, Lillian Radtke, Lily Fergusen and coach Mark Kroeker from SCCHS qualified as the first-place team while Alyssa Thingvold, Annika Roberge, Mia Goffinet-Perrault, Hannah Ulm and coach Heather Thingvold from Ponteix will also qualify for regionals.

The team from Hazlet with Tessa Todd, Braden Baumann, Vanessa Barr, Teagan Emms, Sina Muller, Aimee Brown and Tarryl Todd won the open mixed event, and the host team from Eastend with Bodie Duke, Makayla Bjornson, Willy Li, Lola Richardson, Slade Bjornson and coach Dana Duke finished second.

The SHSAA regional championships will be held at the Callie Curling Club in Regina on March 1 and 2.
