More Swift Current amenities have been given the all-clear to reopen.

Libraries, museums, theatres and galleries will be allowed to reopen across Saskatchewan on June 29 as restrictions being rolled back continue to return life to a new normal.

While the province has cleared them to open once again, the Swift Current Library will remain closed for a time as they adapt their services to ensure patrons remain safe.

Andrea McCrimmon, the manager of the Swift Current Library, said that guidelines are being developed for the eventual reopening.

“The provincial librarian from the Ministry of Education is working with library directors from across Saskatchewan to create common guidelines for the safe operation of libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic”

“In the meantime, until we have health and safety precautions in place where we can be sure of the safety of our staff and patrons we will remain closed to the public but focus on delivery services in a contactless way.”

Their curbside pick-up has been servicing the community since they closed their doors, as well as e-books, audiobooks, video games, literacy kits and public printing.

The library found out about being given the go-ahead to open yesterday, a week before they can open once again.

“We’re working really hard to get the health and safety guidelines and procedures in place and the staff back in place,” she added. “There’s a lot to do, but we’re really looking forward to expanding our services and helping the public as much as possible while we’re closed.”

The Swift Current Museum is also looking forward to opening again with increased protections in place for staff and visitors.

They are installing sneeze guards, directional arrows to guide visitors a certain way, a warning regarding the risk of COVID-19, protective equipment for staff, a capacity limit, hand sanitizer for visitors, and sanitizing wrap for touchpads. They are also encouraging people to avoid paying in cash.

Their video game booth and table-top hockey game will also be closed.

The Museum is hoping to be able to open August 9 as they wait for supplies to arrive.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is also getting sneeze guards. A date to open that facility hasn’t been set yet, but it may open in early July.
