While yesterday's show was cancelled, tonight the show must go on.

The Lyric Theater's Shakespeare troupe is preparing for their final performance, wrapping up the Great Southwest Shakespeare Festival in Swift Current for another year.

Tonight's show will be "As you like it", a romantic comedy that has proven to be a favourite for many.

Gordon McCall, artistic and executive director for both the Lyric Theater and the Great Southwest Shakespeare Festival, is hoping people can make it for what will be the finale.

"The show takes place at the Great Southwest Shakespeare Festival site in Riverside Park in the big tent," said McCall.

Last week, six shows were cancelled and full refunds were given to everyone who purchased tickets after a cast member tested positive for the coronavirus.

"We had to cancel out of an abundance of caution for the actor, the cast, and certainly the public," explained McCall.

Tonight's show proceeds under the fact that said cast member has recovered and that none of the other members have tested positive or exhibited symptoms.

'As you like it' is believed to have been written in 1599, and was first published in 1623.

The play follows the adventure of the heroine Rosalind as she escapes persecution in her uncle's courts. She is accompanied by her cousin Celia, and eventually, they find safety and love in the Forest of Arden. Along the way, they meet a host of colourful characters who contribute to the centuries-old merriment found in this historical play.

The show will be starting at 7 p.m, with tickets for sale online on the Lyrics website, or at Pharmasave.
