Some major work will be taking place at the sodium sulphate processing facility near Chaplin.

Saskatchewan Minerals Incorporated recently announced plans to for a major overhaul of its sodium sulphate processing facility near Chaplin.

The major upgrade will be switching from a natural gas boiler and a new coal fire boiler.  Also planned is a technology that takes the flue gas and creates sodium bicarbonate and ammonium sulphate.

Dale Halborg, General Manager for Saskatchewan Minerals Inc., says that they are in the environmental assesment stage, which is the stage before the actual upgrading.

The estimated cost of the project is 25 million dollars. They hope to start the project soon for a finish in late 2007.
