The Swift Current Stock Car Association wrapped up their abbreviated season on the weekend in front of back-to-back soldout crowds.

COVID-19 restrictions held the maximum capacity to 150 fans for both race days (Friday and Saturday) and Alicia Smith a member of the Swift Current Stock Car Association's board of directors said it was nice to see the fan interest in the events.

"We soldout Saturday on I think Tuesday," she said. "On Friday at about 3 p.m. Tune-A-Matic called me and told me they had sold their last ticket. We had people we had to turn away. Lots of Facebook messages from people that I had to put on the (wait) list."

As for the races themselves - aside from a few hiccups caution-wise during Saturday's feature races things went well especially for the modified races.

"We had 18 modifieds, which we have not had that many modifieds in Swift Current in a few years," she said. "Hobby stock class came back and there was eight of them, which was awesome - they were all from out of town. We had our regular streets plus a couple out of town. And all of our minis plus a few from Alberta that showed up... The modified feature actually started out with all 18 cars on the track so that was super awesome to see again."

Joey Galloway in the 01 car won both of the modified feature races and Kajun Fitzpatrick in the number 39 car double down winning both mini feature races too.

Stefan Klym won the Friday nights street race and finished second to Brad Lenorson on Saturday afternoon. While Kruz Wilson won Friday's hobby stock feature and Tony Mikalchuk claimed the checkered flag in that class on Saturday.

Smith said the great car turnout was in part to advanced communications with other tracks in Saskatchewan and Alberta allowing them to be one of the only events running this past week.

She's also hopeful that next year they will be able to return to 300 plus fans at races, but will continue to work with the Saskatchewan Health Authority on guidelines for future events.
