As Brad Wall prepares to retire and step down from his ten-year term as Premier, he looked back at 2017.

Wall said that though the 2017-2018 budget was a highlight for him, he feels like the government made a mistake regarding funding to the libraries.

"There are times where you admit your mistakes. This last budget, we noted that the library cut was too much."

When the budget was released, $4.8 million was cut to the funding for regional, Saskatoon, and Regina library systems.

The cut brought the operating budget for the three library systems down to $2.5 million in 2017-2018.

Wall said that he believes that people expect politicians to be just like they are, and sometimes that means making mistakes.

"I think people expect their government and their representatives to be just like they are," he said. "Folks are honest with themselves and their friends, and they'll admit mistakes and make a change. If you do that when a mistake has been made, people will be pretty gracious, in fact, they might even give you a little bit of credit because that doesn't seem to be the way most political outfits work."

Wall said that when he makes mistakes, it's because he has had a temporary loss of perspective.

"From the beginning, I truly felt honoured to serve and represent the province, and I have tried to remember that every day," he said. "When I've made mistakes in this job it's because I haven't had that thought front and centre."
