Adolis Garcia hit two homer and drove in five runs to help the Texas Rangers reach the World Series for the third time in franchise history with an 11-4 blowout of the defending champion Houston Astros in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Monday.

Garcia homered for the fourth straight game and set a record for RBI in a postseason series with 15 en route to being named the ALCS MVP.

The Rangers will play in the Fall Classic for the first time since 2011 against the winner of the NLCS between Arizona and Philadelphia. Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit back-to-back home runs and Merrill Kelly struck out eight batters as the Diamondbacks handed the Phillies a 5-1 loss to force a seventh and deciding game of the series, set for tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

Gallagher scores winner as Habs beat Sabres

Brendan Gallagher's goal early in the third period stood up as the game winner as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 in the NHL's only game on the schedule Monday. Justin Barron and Tanner Pearson also scored for the Canadiens, who host the New Jersey Devils tonight as part of a full slate of 16 games with all 32 teams in action.

In other games tonight, Toronto visits Washington, Ottawa hosts Buffalo, Edmonton visits Minnesota, Vancouver heads to Nashville and Calgary hosts the Rangers.

In the WHL tonight, the East Division-leading Saskatoon Blades host the Moose Jaw Warriors at SaskTel Centre, and the Red Deer Rebels welcome the Seattle Thunderbirds, who come to Swift Current on Friday night. Out west, the Wenatchee Wild hosts the Kamloops Blazers. The Broncos return to action on Wednesday when they host the Prince Albert Raiders.

Vikings beat Niners on MNF

Kirk Cousins and Jordan Addison connected for two first-half touchdowns as the Minnesota Vikings beat the San Francisco 49ers 22-17 in the NFL Monday Nighter. Christian McCaffrey had two majors in his season debut for the 49ers, who lost consecutive games for the first time in a 34-game span.

NBA season tips off tonight

The NBA will begin its 78th season with a doubleheader tonight. LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will visit the defending champion Denver Nuggets in the early game, while Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors host the Phoenix Suns in the nightcap.

The Toronto Raptors will host the Minnesota Timberwolves in their season opener on Wednesday.
