The Yard Waste Program will be open for the 2021 season, with physical distancing restrictions starting this upcoming weekend.

Mitch Minkin, General Manager, Infrastructure & Operations at the City of Swift Current provides details regarding the contract.

"The cost of operations has not increased in the three-year period and Swift Current has offered to continue services for 2021 at the same cost as previous years. The proposed contract is for the operation of the two collection sites from April 17th to October 31st. "

Locations for free disposal will include the former St. Joseph’s School site, on Dahl Street on the south side, Innovation Credit Union i-Plex Parking Lot on the north side, and the Landfill.

Minkin breaks down the cost of the operation. 

"The total cost of the contract is $99,000 PST exempt and GST excluded, funded through the solid waste utilities operating budget."

Protocols will be in place including following attendant’s direction for remaining in your vehicle, waiting in designated parking, keeping physical distancing regulations, only one vehicle allowed service at a time, and empty the contents of bags and containers into the bays and adhere to the instructions given by the attendant.

Hours of Operation at Sites:

Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm

Friday afternoons from 12:00 to 4:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

CLOSED on Sundays on Statutory Weekends

System of disposal:

 Separate bays for ease of disposal, at ground level

Staggered entry while remaining in your vehicle, upholding physical distancing regulations

Individual access to ensure user and staff safety

Option for those with mobility issues, to remain in the vehicle while staff unloads bags
