The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced this week that a number of its lower-traffic ports of entry along the Canada-US border would see temporary reductions in open hours.

Due in part to the lower traffic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the change is reportedly also another element of the CBSA's attempt to limit the spread of the virus in Canada. With all non-essential travel into Canada currently prohibited by federal order, a total of 27 locations will have their operating hours reduced.

In the southwest, both the Climax and Monchy border crossings will be reduced from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Both had been previously opened 7 days per week until 6 p.m.

In a press release, the CBSA stressed that economic supply chains and trade will remain open, meaning that the changes should not affect commercial traffic.

There is no specific end date for the reduction in service, as it will be reviewed on an ongoing basis as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve.
