Team South West claimed a bronze medal in girls' curling at the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Regina to bring their medal total to 13 at the midway point of the games.

The team of Andra and Tessa Todd of Hazlet, Brooklyn Schell of Richmound and Grace Wickenheiser of Sceptre, went 2-1 in round-robin play before defeating Team South East 12-3 in the third-place game at the Callie Club. Team Prairie Central defeated Team Rivers West 10-7 in the gold medal game.

On the boys' side, Team South West with Troy Oakman, Riley Starkey and Ethan Robinson of Swift Current, finished seventh with a 2-4 record.

Team South West has three gold, five silver and five bronze medals at the games as the second half of competition gets underway today with local athletes competing in figure skating, futsal, target shooting, judo and wrestling.

Meanwhile, at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, Hunter Berg had two points as Team Saskatchewan defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 55-27 in wheelchair basketball. Saskatchewan faces Alberta in the quarterfinals tonight. Also, the men’s hockey team has a quarterfinal game against Nova Scotia this afternoon with four players from the Home Hardware Legionnaires in the lineup for Saskatchewan.
