Aaron Judge gets 61st homer as Yankees beat Blue Jays

History was made at Rogers Centre on Wednesday night. 

Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer to left field in the seventh inning off Blue Jays pitcher Tim Mayza for his American League record-tying 61st home run of the season, and it was the go-ahead homer as the Yankees beat the Jays 8-3 in the finale of a three-game series. 

Despite the loss, the Jays’ magic number dropped down to one after Baltimore lost 3-1 to Boston. Toronto is off today, but they can still clinch a playoff spot if the Orioles lose to the Red Sox this afternoon. The Jays open a three-game set with the Red Sox on Friday.

ICE beat Raiders in WHL action

Connor McLennon and Steven Arp scored two goals each as the Winnipeg ICE beat the Prince Albert Raiders 6-2 in the lone WHL game on Wednesday night. 

The ICE visit the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night at 7:00pm from InnovationPlex and live on the Eagle 94.1 FM with Living Sky Casino Broncos Hockey starting at 6:30pm. The Edmonton Oil Kings welcome the Regina Pats in tonight's only WHL game.

In the NHL pre-season, Matt Murray made 16 saves over two periods in his Maple Leafs debut as Toronto blanked the Montreal Canadiens 3-0. Meanwhile, Brett Sutter and Michael Stone each had a goal and an assist and Johnathan Huberdeau also scored as the Calgary Flames beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-0.

Tonight, the winless Vancouver Canucks visit Seattle to take on the unbeaten Kraken while the Habs play host to the Winnipeg Jets.

Canada advances to FIBA Women's World Cup semifinal

Canada’s women’s basketball team beat Puerto Rico 79-60 overnight to advance to the FIBA World Cup semi-final in Australia. 

Kia Nurse had 17 points for the Canadians, who had won bronze in this event in 1979 and 1986. They’ll face the top-ranked Americans for a spot in the final early Friday morning.

Tua's status up in the air for Thursday nighter

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is listed as questionable ahead of tonight's matchup with the Cincinatti Bengals to kick off week four in the NFL.

Tagovailoa left Sunday's game against Buffalo after taking a big hit and appearing to be disoriented as he got up from the field. He did return later in the game as the Dolphins upset the Bills 21-19.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that Tagovailoa is not in concussion protocol.

Riders & Bombers honouring Orange Shirt Day on Friday

Week 17 in the CFL kicks off on Friday with the Saskatchewan Roughriders taking on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at IG Field.

Both teams announced on Wednesday that players and coaches will be wearing orange jerseys and shirts during the pre-game warmup in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The jerseys will be auctioned and raffled off with the proceeds supporting indigenous sports programs in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

BC hosts Ottawa in the other game on Friday while Montreal visits Edmonton and Toronto travels to Calgary on Saturday.
