Another epic season of stock car racing is on the horizon for local racers, mechanics, car enthusiasts, and fans.

The Swift Current Stock Car Association will kick off the season on Saturday, May 25 at 4 p.m. at the Kinetic Park.

The first day of races will feature several categories including the minis, streets, and hobbies.

Terry Fehr, vice president of the Swift Current Stock Car Association, is thrilled to get back on the track and encourages anyone interested to check out this rough-and-tumble sport.

"Up to about an hour before the races start, our pits are completely open for anyone to come in, he said. "We really love to see people out there, kids can sit in the car, and it's all kinds of fun."

Events are also set for June 14 with the Alberta Extreme Sprintcars, July 19 as a part of the Prairie Dirt Racing Association tour, July 23 will be Kid's Day, September 20 and 21 will be the final PDRA races and the 21st will be Fun Day.

"It's a carnage thing," said Fehr when asked why people enjoy stock racing." Everybody likes to see a little bit of rollovers and banging and bashing, and on a dirt track, it's steady banging and bashing.

"I hope to see a lot of people out there and we really appreciate the support we get from the community."
