Excellent weather helped make Canada Day celebrations in Swift Current a success.

There was plenty to celebrate on Canada's 150th birthday with nine events scheduled beginning with the Market Square and the annual Canada Day parade.

"Our community rallies behind events and we see it all the time," said Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault. "To see the parade be so successful, as it was today and especially with the beautiful weather we had. I was really happy to be in it this year and from start, to finish we had people lining both sides of the streets. It was exciting to see all the red and the Canada 150 gear everyone was wearing."

Following the parade which saw over 100 floats participate, people flooded to Memorial Park for the flag raising ceremonies that were performed by Icasiana de Gala, executive director of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre.

"I think that we know we're a patchwork quilt of Canadians," Perrault added. "We've got people from all ethnicity, all cultures, that all come together and all work together right here in our community. It's definitely a humbling thing when you see everyone rocking the red and white and the Canada 150 gear."

After the flag raising ceremony was finished, the City of Swift Current handed out 1,500 hot dogs and cold beverages to people in attendance.

Starting the afternoon was a trio of events that included Saskatchewan's Road to Confederation that was held at the Swift Current Museum. There was also Oh Canada: The View From Here at the Art Gallery of Swift Current and A Rightful Place - The Face of Saskatchewan Newcomers at West Wing Gallery at Kinetic Park Fair Grounds.

The Canada 150 celebrations then moved over to Kinetic Park Fair Grounds for the final day action of the CCA Rodeo and Frontier Days.

"Just seeing all of our friends come together to celebrate Canada Day and Frontier Days, it's a great cap to the week," Perrault added.

As nighttime started, people migrated towards the grandstand to enjoy music from Aaron Goodvin and Sawyer Brown.

Capping off the day of celebrations was a large fireworks display presented by Living Sky Casino.
