Add another rodeo to the docket for Kinetic Park this summer.

On Tuesday afternoon it was announced that the Canadian High School Finals Rodeo running from August 5-7 will take place in Swift Current.

According to Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Association's President Clayton Schira, Swift Current has been on the radar for several years to host the event.

"Swift Current's just an excellent rodeo town, they really are supportive," he said. "The City is absolutely outstanding to work with. They became a frontrunner very quickly and have stayed there. We haven't thought about leaving since we began (making) plans with them."

The City 'where life makes sense' was up against three to four other Saskatchewan communities to land the three-day event.

"We started looking for venues a couple of years ago," he said. "We wanted accessibility, the right sized community that could handle (the event), had some hotel space, and had an excellent venue."

Around 285 competitors from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba are expected to make the trek to southwestern Saskatchewan's largest community.

"There will be a buzz in the community, that's for sure," he said. "Most of them will compete in multiple events and they'll be bringing families, friends, and grandparents... They'll be a lot of people coming to Swift Current."

There will be some local flavour in the rodeo as four locals will compete, Tori Hansen, Grace Giesbrecht, Mason Moen and Kiera Williamson.

Nearly a dozen events are scheduled for the rodeo and include; Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Tie-Down Roping, Team Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Goat Tying, Pole Bending, Steer Wrestling, Bull Riding, Cutting and Reined Cow Horse.
