"The Big One was a big one for the SPCA," non-profit shelter bombarded with donations

The Swift Current SPCA was the biggest beneficiary at The Big One earlier this week. 

The animal shelter regularly attends Taillight Tuesday, with this month seeing them as the non-profit beneficiary for all of September. 

When the Rogue Cruisers told the SPCA to get ready for The Big One, they could have never been prepared for the $3,925 they raised together with the Living Sky Casino BBQ Fundraiser. 

Joanne Schatkoski, the development manager for the Swift Current SPCA, was floored by just how generous everyone was.

"Thanks to Living Sky Casino, we raised over $2,500 in donations for the BBQ," said Schatkoski. "It was all so incredible. I'm still in shock over all the donations."

Schatkoski could be found at the big one, selling raffle tickets for the SPCA at $10 a piece. Folks buying tickets were entered to win an Amazon Fire Tablet, with that draw set for the end of the month. 

Throughout the night, the SPCA managed to gain $1,410 from folks entering the raffle, and others just handing over donations out of the kindness of their hearts. 

"[People] just don't know how much that helps the shelter out in these hard times," said Schatkoski. "With inflation and the dog food prices so high, that money just helps us out so much."

Folks who missed their chance to support the SPCA at The Big One are in luck, as Taillight Tuesdays are not done yet. Next week, the SPCA will be back for yet another chrome-clad evening at the Living Sky Casino.

"It was just an amazing, amazing, amazing summer being with them," said Schatkoski. "I encourage everybody to come out to these Tuesday nights. It's so much fun, and it's like a big coffee row."

Schatkoski has already contacted the Rogue Cruisers, booking them in for next May as the first beneficiaries for next year.
