In the October 16 COVID-19 update from The Saskatchewan Health Authority there are a total of 40 new cases of the virus reported in the province.

Of those 40 cases, there are 6 in the Far North West zone, 7 in the Far North East zone, 1 in the North West zone, 8 in the North  Central zone, 7 in the Saskatoon zone, 1 in the Central West zone, 2 in the Central East zone, 7 in the Regina zone, and 1 in the South Central zone.

Twenty-three of today's new cases have been linked to close contacts/gatherings. Note that "superspreader" events are not limited to those who attended the event itself, but quickly transmit in local settings. The most recent summary data available indicates that 79 individuals in multiple communities have tested positive for COVID-19 are linked to the Gospel Worship event in Prince Albert, including case contacts of attendees. At least 250 contacts have been part of the contact investigation relative this superspreader event.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the province now sits at 2,270, of which 299 are considered active.

Two cases that had been assigned to Central East and Regina were deemed to be out of province cases and were removed, bringing the total case number to 2,270 cases. The remaining case with pending residence information has been assigned to Regina.

There is 1 active COVID-19 case in the South West zone.

There are 12 more recoveries reported today, bringing that provincial total to 1,946.

There are 9 people in hospital. Seven are receiving inpatient care-5 in the Saskatoon zone, and 2 in the North Central zone. Two people are in intensive care-1 in Saskatoon and 1 in Regina.

There have been 25 deaths in the province related to COVID-19.

To date, 225,532 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan.

And yesterday, there were 2,568 COVID-19 tests done.
