Southwest stock racers and car enthusiasts were pumped for the Swift Current Stock Car Association’s first race of the season this past weekend with minis, hobbies, and streets.

The track at the Kinetic Park hosted the races with an open pit an hour before the races began at 4:00 p.m.

Terry Fehr, vice president of the Swift Current Stock Car Association, was thrilled to see the season kick off with support from the community.

“The rain kind of hurt us a bit but we got a track somewhat together,” said Fehr. “Other than that, it’s a typical day, we’ve already had an engine dynamite and a couple spin out.”

Snacks and drinks were available at the turquois coloured food truck onsite and families could be seen cheering in the stands.

The feature race winners included Jonathan Nelson in minis, Wayne Sadowski in streets, and Rob Gale Jr. in hobbies.

Swift Current Stock Car Association’s next race is coming up on June 14 and 15 for the sprint car show where the Alberta Extreme Sprint Cars will be featured.

“Hopefully we see a lot of people out for the car show,” he added.
