A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for southwest Saskatchewan.

Although not as severe and timely as a thunderstorm warning, the watch has been issued by Environment Canada to allow for preparation time in case of an upgrade in severity.

At the moment across the southwest corner of the province, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms, some severe, have developed over eastern Alberta and may move into southwestern Saskatchewan later this evening.

Updates will be given by the Swift Current Online newsroom as the status of the storm changes.
