It was near record-setting month of September weather-wise in Swift Current.

Southwestern Saskatchewan's largest centre had an average temperature of 16 C for the ninth month of the year, 4 C above normal. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Swift Current experienced its fourth warmest September in 137 years of record.

The toasty conditions continued a trend the region endured in August, as it was the sixth warmest in Swift Current history.

"It is very much a carryover," said Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Terri Lang. "It looks like it will carry on even a little bit into October."

Eight of the 30 days in the month registered daytime highs of at least 30.4 C. Late in September, a brief heat wave broke records on back-to-back days.

The weather station in Swift Current only collected 4.6 millimetres last month of precipitation, well below the monthly average of 34.1 millimetres. That marks the 11th driest September on record in Swift Current.

"October is forecasted to be above average temperature-wise and below average for precipitation," she said.

Swift Current's daytime high for early October is 15 C and an overnight low at 1 C.
