The Western Canadian Baseball League’s Board of Governors remains hopeful that the 2020 summer season, in whatever format it may be, will be played.

The WCBL put out a release Sunday evening after the BOG met, announcing that, though a final decision on the season hasn’t been made at this time, they’ve set several benchmark dates through the following months with corresponding formats.

The league noted that, while the state of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be monitored, the cut-off date to decide on if a full season would be played is May 2.

Shortened schedules do have the potential to be a possibility as well, should May 2 pass without getting the go-ahead.

The Father’s Day weekend (June 21), or roughly around that date, is one of two proposed marks – the other being around Canada Day. The logistics of the season would be set three or four weeks before those potential start dates.

Though, if the pandemic still has a stranglehold on travel restrictions and limits mass gatherings in early June preventing the confirmation of a start date, the Board of Governors voted to cancel the season at that point.

The next update from the WCBL will come in roughly two weeks, with a tentative date of April 20 set.
