The Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats out-scored the Weyburn Gold Wings 8-2 in a weekend sweep down in southeast Sask.

It wasn't the Wildcats' finest effort of the season in a 2-0 shutout win on Saturday, but powerplay goals from Baylee Kirwan and Sara Kendall, as well as a 19-save effort by Amaya Giraudier aided in securing the W.

It was a game whose pace was severly slowed by penalties after the whistles, but nothing compared to what was in store on Sunday.

After the two teams combined for 16 powerplays on Saturday, they raised that mark to a total of 25 in Game 2.

Swift Current won 6-2 in the weekend finale.

"Unfortunately, the consistency in the officiating - both ways - was not very good. We couldn't get any flow to the game, and there was just no rhyme or reason for what was being called today," fumed Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely post-game.

"We'd do something, it'd be a penalty - they'd do it, and it wouldn't be. Then they'd do something, it would be a penalty - we'd do it, it wasn't a penalty. Nobody knew what was going to be called on either side of the bench. The kids had no idea what was allowed, what wasn't allowed."

The Wildcats again scored twice on the powerplay, going a total of 4-for-18 on the weekend, opposite an 0-for-23 mark by the Gold Wings.

"If teams want to try and play that way against us, they're probably going to lose, because our powerplay is pretty good, and I'd put it up against most teams," noted Pavely.

Half of Sunday's scoring came from defenceman Maddy McCleary, polishing off her first-career SFMAAAHL hat-trick.

"Definitely just shooting from the blueline, taking my time," she said. "The penalty-kill and powerplay were just really working for our team. Driving to the net, just doing all those little things really helped produce today."

Two of McCleary's goals came on the powerplay. Elsewhere, Sara Kendall had a goal and four assists, rounding out her weekend total at two goals and five assists.

"Our best players were our best players today," said Pavely. "Honestly, I don't know if, at times, they were (Saturday). Today they were good, and we need our best players to lead. I thought when they had opportunities to lead, they did."

"You've got to show the rookies how to play that game," added McCleary. " You've got to show them how to step up, how to keep out of the box. But, it was definitely a good thing that our vets stepped up today."

Samantha Thompson and Ashlee Wolfe also added goals in the game, while Cheyenne Jamieson stopped 28 of 30 shots.

The Wildcats are now up to 6-0-1-0 on the season, taking 20 of a possible 21 points, as their undefeated start continues.

A long stretch free of league games is now ahead for the Wildcats, who don't play until November 16, when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at Fairview West.

"Just make sure we keep that cardio in, hitting the rink, being focused, making sure that we're taking care of ourselves, sleep, all those kinds of things," said McCleary. "Just really preparing for the rest of the season."

As for a main part of practice, being able to exit the defensive zone with some versatility will be some that's worked on ahead of the mid-November tilt.

"We've got to break out a little bit more effectively," said Pavely. "This team today, they were pinching their D on every play, so we've got to find a way to use the middle more. We don't want to be predictable. If the wall's there, we want to use it, but if we can the middle of the ice to break out, then we kind of eliminate the the other team's D and their ability to pinch in. That's one thing we're really going to harp on."

Puck drop in that November 16 game is 7:45 p.m.
