A perfect day for Max Kirkpatrick at the Affinity Credit Union Senior Joint Provincial Curling Championship in Swift Current.

Entering Thursday with a record of 1-1, Swift Current's Kirkpatrick picked up wins in both of his games to improve to 3-1 after two days of competition.

The team, consisting of Skip Max Kirkpatrick, Third Wayne Charteris, Second Mitch Minken and Lead Greg Hannay defeated Kelvington's Brent Franco 8-5 in the morning draw, before rolling past Prince Albert's Bryan Rindal 10-1 in four ends during afternoon action.

In his earlier game, Kirkpatrick jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two ends of play following back-to-back steals, however, Franco came right back with a score of four in the 3rd to tie the game.

After rolling out on a hit for two in the 4th, the Swift Current rink had to settle for a just a single point and a 5-4 lead at the break.

The two teams then traded one point over the next two ends, giving Kirkpatrick 6-5 lead after 6.

Franco was able to blank the 7th end and carry the hammer into the 8th and final end, where he was able to get plenty of rocks in play and appeared to perhaps be setting up for the winning two points, or at worst, on point to tie the game.

However, with his last rock, Kirkpatrick made a perfect corner freeze to force Franco to draw the button for a tie, which was unsuccessful giving the Swift Current club two more points and an 8-5 win.

In their second contest of the day, it was much less stressful for the Kirkpatrick rink.

They jumped all over Rindal scoring four points in the 1st end, before scoring three more in the 3rd and stealing another three in the 4th for a 10-1 lead and early handshakes.

On Friday's schedule for Kirkpatrick will be the defending provincial champions from Kerrobert in Team Brad Heidt at 2:30pm followed by a meeting with Regina's Randy Gilewich at 7:30pm.
