Children and their parents were able to glean some holiday spirit and be able to receive weekend entertainment from a recent event.

Parents and their little ghouls and goblins headed to the Swift Current Branch Library to take part in their annual Halloween party.

Multiple spooky-themed events took place at the branch, which helped to keep the community connected to the literacy centre.

Tekeyla Friday, children's program coordinator with the Swift Current Branch Library, said that there was no shortage of things to do at the event.

"We had a lot of fun! There were about 55+ participants that came in, and they played games with myself and some volunteers."

Employees of the Art Gallery of Swift Current assisted in craft making as well.

Games centred around creepy holiday themes at the party that included reaching into sensory bins for Halloween themed items, grabbing mystery balloons from water ponds, and a game where kids could fish for treats.

Friday said that the event was beneficial for the library as it shows how much of a community resource they are.

"I think having events like this help to bring a positive attitude about coming to the library, and it showcases that we're more than just books."

"It really pulls together a sense of community, and shows the community that libraries are an important place to be."

Registration is now open for a spooky story event on Halloween at the library as well.
