The entrance to Swift Current's Canadian Tire resembled that of Santa's workshop this past weekend.

Thanks to southwestern Saskatchewan a toy mountain was constructed during the third annual Toys Days in support of the Swift Current Salvation Army.

The general public was able to filled 3 1/2 bins full of toys for the non-profit organization just a few weeks ahead of Christmas.

"We've had a lot of support from the community, people just coming by dropping cart fulls of their own stuff, it was great,"Swift Current Salvation Army's Lieutenant Bill Mailman said moments after the event wrapped up.

The three-day event kicked off Friday morning and was supplemented with some large cash donations before close on Sunday including $500 from ETG.

"We're just really thankful for the business support in the community, it's always great to see businesses step up to support their communities," he said.

Canadian Tire put out a corporate challenge on Friday asking local businesses to donate $200 towards Toys Days with five businesses joining that initiative.

"Hopefully we will use some of that cash if we end up with anything short, we can come back and top up for anything we need," he said.

Last year the event brought in over 450 toys after cash donations were used to buy toys. This year the Salvation Army was hoping for more than 375 toys to gift each child included in their Christmas Hamper program at least one toy.

"It looks like we're on par, or even more than we got last year, so this is great," he said.

The final toy donation totals will be available sometime this week after the Salvation Army sorts its way through toy mountain.
